Hair colour. Manicure. Lung damage. Birth defects.
Welcome to the salon.

Hair, beauty and nail salons are high on the list of market sectors in need of clean air technology.

Most concerning is the exposure to toxic chemicals present in hair and beauty products and released into the air with every treatment. Examples include hair dyes and bleach which contain persulfates and ammonia, and fake tans that use dihydroxyacetone (DHA). These are known to cause cancer and respiratory disease such as asthma.

Nail care products also contain a lethal cocktail of chemicals that can cause breathing problems and permanent lung damage, comparable to a smoking habit over time. Even the filing of artificial nails release fine dust particles that can cause respiratory problems.

Scientific research on the indoor environment of beauty salons has provided evidence to the presence of harmful VOCs from beauty products. Shockingly, a report by the California Environmental Protection Agency found links between long-term exposure of chemicals found in commonly used nail care products to cancer and birth defects. This is especially worrying for pregnant women who are employees or regular customers in salons.

The regular flow of customers and thus public interaction also provides a high level of threat from exposure to virus and infection. Many salons are also situated on busy high streets, providing daily exposure to dangerous levels of traffic pollution which becomes trapped inside.

With such a breadth of sources of air pollution it is essential for Salons to take action and protect their workers and customers with advanced clean air technology.

The technology
We invested our time into thoroughly researching the clean air technology market with the aim to identify its leading technology. After all, it would be no good for us to go around alerting people to the dangers of indoor pollution only to provide them with a second-rate solution.

Most of the technology on the market purifies air using filtration technology - typically HEPA filters, which can be very beneficial but have their limitations. Firstly, they don’t catch some of the most harmful particles i.e. anything smaller than 0.3 microns and secondly, the pollutants that they do catch aren’t killed or neutralised in the system, so can build up over time and actually become a source of pollution.

Only one company are producing technology able to catch and neutralise all air pollutants right down to the smallest nanoparticle, performing complete sterilisation;
Radic8 and their innovative, patented ViruskillerTM technology.

As the
Highest Certified Clean Air Technology in the world, Radic8 products use an advanced UV reactor chamber to neutralise all known air pollutants, from traffic pollution and chemicals to virus and bacteria, making Salons a safe place to work and visit.

We at Airnitiative are delighted to be an Official Ambassador for Radic8 technology. If you are considering installing clean air technology in your Salon, don't settle for a second rate solution.
